N9VE places Portugal in rare earth production

N9VE has announced that it is producing rare earth oxides in Portugal with purity above 99.8%, recovered from end-of-life permanent magnets through its proprietary hydrometallurgical technology.

This achievement represents an important milestone for Portugal and Europe, demonstrating concrete technological capability in a critical field for industrial autonomy, the energy transition and the security of supply of strategic raw materials.

The production takes place at N9VE’s Rare Earths & Magnetics Innovation Center, in Barcelos, where the company develops and validates solutions for the recovery and purification of rare earth elements from end-of-life permanent magnets.

This result shows that Europe can transform resources already existing in its territory into a new source of critical raw materials, recovering strategic value, reducing environmental pressure and creating a fast and circular industrial response.

The scale-up of this technology is being developed within the scope of the N9VE.REEnew project, co-financed by COMPETE 2030, Portugal 2030 and the European Union, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
